Dr. Yiwen Chen brings a unique perspective to patient care thanks to his extensive training in both comprehensive dentistry and orthodontics. With dental education and clinical experience in both the United States and China, he takes a thoughtful, big-picture approach to every smile. Rather than focusing on individual teeth alone, Dr. Chen considers each patient’s bite, function, facial esthetics, and long-term oral health when recommending treatment.
He is passionate about providing evidence-based, personalized care and helping patients fully understand their options so they can feel confident in the decisions they make about their smiles.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Chen earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry, where he graduated with Highest Distinction. In recognition of his academic and professional achievements, he was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the national dental honor society—an honor reserved for top-performing dental graduates.
Before continuing his dental career in the United States, Dr. Chen completed a rigorous orthodontic residency and earned his Master of Stomatology in Orthodontics from Wuhan University, home to one of China’s leading dental institutions. He then practiced orthodontics in China before pursuing additional dental education and clinical training in the United States.
What Makes Dr. Chen’s Approach to Dentistry Unique?
With a background spanning both orthodontics and comprehensive general dentistry, Dr. Chen is able to look beyond an individual dental concern and consider how all aspects of a patient’s smile work together. His approach takes into account the alignment of the teeth, bite, function, facial esthetics, and long-term oral health to develop personalized treatment plans for his patients.
Dr. Chen has also maintained a strong interest in orthodontic research throughout his career. His academic work has resulted in multiple scientific publications and patents related to orthodontics, reflecting his ongoing commitment to evidence-based treatment, innovation, and the advancement of dentistry.
Above all, he believes patients should understand the “why” behind their care. He takes the time to explain treatment options and help each patient make informed decisions that support both their immediate needs and long-term dental health.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
When he isn’t caring for patients, Dr. Chen enjoys creating videos, traveling, playing sports, and experiencing different cultures. He’s also always interested in exploring new cuisines and discovering great food wherever his travels take him.
