Implant Dentistry

Whether you’re smiling, speaking, or chewing, implants will look, feel, and work more like your “original equipment” than any other kind of tooth replacement dental restoration.

Dental implants restore your appearance and natural bite.

Dental implants are used to fill the gaps left by a lost tooth or several individual teeth. To replace a missing tooth, we insert a titanium post below the gum line in an in-office surgical procedure. After the post has had time (three to six months) to integrate with the jawbone, we mount a natural-looking replacement tooth over the implant.

When more than one tooth is missing, implants provide strong support for bridges and dentures. Implants can be fitted with various superstructures, such as a ball attachment to clip a denture or partial down. Two implants can be used to replace 3 or 4 missing teeth, with false teeth bridging the space between the two implant supports. Implant use is varied and adaptable to various situations.

New implant technology, procedures, and surgical techniques have made implant placement easier and more successful.

Often times after teeth are lost, the surrounding bone becomes thin and recedes. This is a common problem, causing loose fit and no support. Bone grafting procedures now make it possible to replace this lost bone support. If needed, prior to implant placement, Dr. Giswold will do an in-office bone grafting procedure to stimulate bone tissue to “grow” where its needed. This simple procedure provides a "bone framework" for the implant. The implant is then placed within this new bone substrate, and allowed to heal into place for 3-6 months. After the implant is solidly fused to the bone, the final restoration is then ready to be placed upon the implant. ie. Denture, partial, crown, bridge.
