Periodontics
The foundation of good health
Do your Gums bleed when you brush or floss? Do you have sore gums or loose teeth?
Or bad breath? Or maybe your teeth are sensitive to cold or feel loose when you
chew?
Healthy teeth need healthy gums.
If you don’t brush and floss regularly, a film of bacteria called plaque
collects on your gums and irritates them. The inflammation of the gums that
results (gingivitis) can lead to an infection of the bone (periodontitis).
Gum disease
is chronic, and usually unnoticeable to the patient. Because it all happens
under the gum line in the collar of gum tissue around the tooth, you may not
be aware
of the ongoing loss of bone support around the tooth. If you grind your teeth,
smoke, or are a poor brusher, you may be at risk of loosing your teeth to periodontal
disease.
This bacterial dental disease, periodontitis, if untreated will lead to
loss
of teeth.
The ongoing inflammation also puts you at greater risk for heart disease, stroke,
and premature labor, and may worsen diabetes.
At Saratoga Dental we make diagnostic gum measurements that enable us to identify
gum disease in the early, most-treatable stages--before you even notice any symptoms.
We then design a customized program of office and self-care to reverse the disease
before it causes permanent damage.
If periodontal disease has already progressed, our team of doctors and hygienists
use the most effective and up-to-date treatments to stop it in its tracks,
including deep-cleaning therapies that remove irritating plaque and tartar
from above and
below the gum line and regenerative procedures which reverse effects of the
disease process.
If your gums are red, sore, puffy, or sensitive; if they bleed
when you brush your teeth; or if they seem to be receding from your teeth, call
us for an appointment right away.
Our focus on continuing periodontal education makes us uniquely qualified to
treat periodontal disease, early to advanced.
