Acid made by bacteria dissolves the hard tissue of your tooth, making it soft and sticky…a cavity! But acid made by bacteria isn’t the only acid that is bad for your teeth.
Acid in foods makes your teeth more susceptible to tooth wear.
When you eat citrus, pop, vinegar, or other acidic foods, be sure to rinse your mouth out with water, or better yet, water with a teaspoon of baking soda before you eat abrasive foods or brush your teeth. It may sound odd, but the polishing agents in your toothpaste may be contributing to your tooth wear. Especially when used after acidic food intake. So, beware!
